Calf augmentation is generally performed as an outpatient procedure that takes about an hour. During the procedure, an incision will be made in the natural crease behind the knee. Then the surgeon will then create a pocket large enough to place the calf implant. They will be located in the superior internal calf area in the legs. In this area, consisting of muscle and fat, scar tissue will form, helping the implant stay in place. The incision will be closed with sutures and there will be bandages placed to reduce inflammation and soreness.
Although it is possible to return to normal physical activity a few days after surgery, it is highly recommended not to participate in strenuous physical activity for approximately six months.
After calf augmentation, legs may seem bulkier, more muscular and better defined. In the case of patients with underdeveloped calves, calf implants can restore balance and proportion with the rest of their bodies. Many patients who undergo calf augmentation report increased self-confidence.
