THE PROCEDURE

Reshaping is generally done through incisions inside the nose, but there may also be an incision across the central portion of the nose between the nostrils. It is sometimes necessary to narrow the base of the nose or reduce the size of the nostrils. This entails removing small wedges of skin at the base of the nostrils. The resulting scars usually fade very well and, ultimately, should be barely noticeable.

The nose is reduced, or in some cases built up, by adjusting its supporting structures either by removing or adding bone and cartilage.

During the first 24 hours after surgery your face will feel puffy, your nose may ache, and you may suffer headaches.  You can control discomfort with pain medical prescribed by your surgeon. Plan on staying in bed with your head elevated. You will notice swelling and bruising around the eyes, reaching a peak after two or three days. Most of the swelling and bruising will subside within two weeks or so. A little bleeding is common during the first few days after surgery and you may feel some itching for a week. The nasal patch is removed after a few days and this will make you feel more comfortable. At the end of two weeks, the stitches must be removed.

RECOMMENDATIONS

To achieve the best result, during the postoperative period is essential that you strictly follow your surgeon’s instructions.

Avoid strenuous activities, as well as hitting or rubbing your nose or getting it sunburned for six weeks. You should wash your face gently and not wear any makeup.

RESULTS

Results are appreciated on the lateral view of the nose before the frontal view, which takes 12 to 18 months to show the final result.

Nasal structures have memory, so this surgery is not only to increase or decrease the bridge or the tip of the nose, but also to properly balance all elements.

COMPLICATIONS

Nosebleed may occur particularly if the nasal tamponade device is removed prior to the indicated time. The tamponade must remain in for 3 to 4 days and it is necessary to attend the clinic for its removal.
